Its been too long since my last update. Lots has happened since the summer. The two most exciting events were the births of 2 new grandkids – Meika and Tracen.
The first week of September was crazy. On Friday, September 2, I went down to Lethbridge with the girls late in the afternoon because my dad was in the hospital (Judy was already down in Raymond). He was okay by the time we saw him and was discharged the next day. We drove home after going to Raymond to pick up Judy who was helping her mom move into a senior’s lodge. We got home around 1 am on Saturday morning.
Around 5 am the phone rang and it was Angie saying that they were heading to the hospital because she was having contractions. (I should mention that in July they moved from Hawaii back to Canada. They were at our place for about a month and then they moved to Saskatoon were Mike was starting a master’s program at the U of Saskatchewan.) We loaded up the car and we were on the road to Saskatchewan before 6 am. We made it in time for Judy to be in the delivery room with Angie. It was great to be in Saskatoon to welcome Meika Diane Wynes into the world.
Jamie, Jenelle, Erika and Papahashi headed home on Monday (Labour Day). We left Judy behind to help with the new addition.
On the drive home we stopped at the lake by Hanna where Uncle Kevin and Aunt Sherry play with their jet skis. It was a nice way to breakup that drive. We went for a quick ride up and down the lake on the jet skis and then we headed home.
(On a side note – that reminds me of something I heard recently. I was listening to the radio and someone said that money can’t by happiness but it can buy jet skis and he’s never seen anyone unhappy while riding a jet ski.)
On Tuesday evening Alana and Luke were staying at our place. Her water broke when I got home from the hospital (another story for another day). I called Judy to update her and we were able to book her a flight home. Who would have guessed there was a flight from Saskatoon to Calgary at 5:30 in the morning. Her plan to help Angie was cut short, but with the early morning flight, Judy got back so she was able to be in the delivery room with Alana when Tracen Luke Allred made his appearance.
So we doubled our grandkids in 4 days.
In October Angie and Mike and the family came to Calgary and Meika and Tracen were blessed in our ward. It was great to have everyone together. You can read more about it on Angie’s Blog.
The 2 babies met each other for the first time.
Meika and Tracen hanging out or more like laying around
I must admit that going to Saskatoon in the winter doesn’t have the same appeal as going to Hawaii but its so nice that Angie and Mike live close enough to drive for a weekend visit. Its also been nice to have Alana and Luke in Calgary. We’ll miss them when they move to Idaho.
I can’t be old old enough to have 4 grandkids. Seems like just yesterday our kids were this size.
